oh my god
So, new LJ Terms of service be like:

I can't help to think this is going to be us interacting with people from other platforms. LOL

Oh god, am I going to get banned for this now? I have no idea.

I had a mental debate for the longest time between using my 'Keep Calm and Put the Kettle On' and my 'Now Panic and Freak Out' icon. But since agreeing the new TOS or whatever I got some "benefits" I decided to upload a new icon, just in case this is the only chance I have to use it. Heh. In the meantime:

[info]my_drarry_recs <---- this one is empty as I only created it today. ^^

I just wanna say, I've been in fandom for a long, long time, before LJ there were yahoo groups, back then fanfiction.net was cool. There was the striketrough -- which some of you might not even remember. Fandom is going to be fine, if we move to DW or IJ or stay here, either way, we'll be fine. <3
Kiki May: Oh childrenkikimay on April 4th, 2017 02:01 pm (UTC)

I already imported everything on DW, just to be on the safe side of things. I would hate to miss the HP community, now that I've found it.

I know. *hug* That's all we can do for now, back up our stuff at DW or other platforms and wait. I don't know (hope?) if anything is actually going to happen, but it's difficult for a community as big as Harry Potter at LJ just loses touch and fractures. It won't happen. <3
my_thestralmy_thestral on April 4th, 2017 02:17 pm (UTC)
It does look a bit inquisitorial with their "yield or be annihilated" policy, but I'm sure they won't just let a good service rot - and even if they do, we've got other options. I have to look you up on dreamwidth, if I'm slowly to move to that domain, I want to be friends all over the Internet with you!! :) *is harder to get rid of than lice and knows it* *sheepish grin* See you there, sometime?

Oh my god, I know! I have these accounts and I don't actually use them. I am starting to get into the habit of crossposting my drarry recs (which is the content I'm most worried about losing) but personal stuff, yeah no. :/

The important thing is for communities to back up, the rest of us will find out way, if something happens, which I'm hoping it won't, really. LJ has made us freak out before and so few times something has actually happened. But just to be safe, oh my god, go and create an account at DW!!!!!
my_thestralmy_thestral on April 4th, 2017 02:23 pm (UTC)
I got one, since the first panic hit, it's just terribly un-updated and I'd probably have to manually transfer some of the posts there, but I'll probably just do it for my stories, I'm none too concerned if my personal stuff falls into the abyss. I have to look up the password and friend you! *goes to dig right now* You're super important, I wouldn't know what to do with the little beacon you in the shadows of the new platform! :D
welcome to villa cariño!capitu on April 4th, 2017 02:27 pm (UTC)
Oh, I just found you! *clings so hard it's embarrassing*

There's an automatic way to upload all your LJ to DW, it's actually rather simple—the best thing about that is that it also saves the comments, the bad thing is that you can't edit those posts. So pros and cons.
my_thestralmy_thestral on April 4th, 2017 02:30 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I remember vaysh posting some technical info once and that's how I got my stuff there in the first place. I wonder if I could select posts on LJ that I want to have imported, I can't imagine I'd have to do everything again. *sigh* I wish I wasn't a million-year-old dino whose technical vudu destroys everything it touches. :D

I hear you! Look at me, I remember when ffnet was cool. *bows head in shame* ;)

My biggest concern is about communities.
I joined HP communities on LJ not long ago, and I can say I'm addicted already.
My journal is mostly something formal I have to use for signing up to fests, commenting, and such, because HP communities still are on LJ. I'm definitely going to create a DW account just to be sure, but.
I'm quite anxious about communities, because HP fandom is still mostly active on here, and I'm not sure everyone is aware of the /scary/ news already...
I think that, in order to prevent nasty things from happening, every community should create a DW safe account too...
Like you said, we're still not sure where things are going to get us, but, since the content we mostly discuss about on LJ is LGBTQ+ friendly, we should be prepared.
HP communities are beautiful, and we don't want to lose them at all, do we?

I relate to so much of what you've said. It's scary to think of a move because you think of all the stuff that might/could be lost, people who might not make the transition, or just a fandom that is fractured, but I like to think ultimately we'll be fine. I know communities have already started importing the content, maybe not posting just yet, or starting to consider cross posting their fests, but 90% of the fests already post to AO3, so that fic won't be lost. With art is a bit trickier, but we will find a way. Maybe new communities, people stepping up to create active fests at DW, if a move even happens. As far as I've read, the TOS are not that much different, what feels different is the environment. Fandom, as you said, is incredibly LGBTQ friendly and positive, and LJ might stop feeling that way. Change is a pain in the patella, but when change is for the better, might as well have faith it will be for the better, no? :)

~ Bruno ~lordhellebore on April 4th, 2017 03:32 pm (UTC)
We will be fine. And this seems to be just one more nail in LJ's coffin.
welcome to villa cariño!capitu on April 4th, 2017 09:08 pm (UTC)
Yeah. LJ is sucking the big one lately. :/
anemonenanemonen on April 4th, 2017 04:24 pm (UTC)
God, yeah this gave me a bit of a scare today too! And like, is it just that one can risk getting deleted, or will we get put on some scary Russian enemy of the state list so we should delete entirely just to be safe? I'm just being a bit paranoid since Russia is my neighbour country after all lmao. Well, if push comes to shove we'll have other options I guess. I'm not very familiar with dw and not at all with ij, but whatever happens I hope we'll manage a collective move without fandom as we know it falling apart :(
welcome to villa cariño!capitu on April 4th, 2017 09:11 pm (UTC)
I'm so unfamiliar with DW. All I do is basically crosspost (recs, and the daily-snitch post) but I don't know how to much else. Then again, aside from learning how to use a DW cut... do we need to know more? lol

LIke I said, we will we fine, if there's a move, everybody eventually is going to hear, it's good having an account there, keeping it active, start learning how to use it. Several comms have already back up at DW, they might not start crossposting, but content is safe, and after all, as Torino and LQ were saying, DW is much more fandom and LGBTQ friendly. This doesn't have to be a bad thing if it happens. *hug*

Just added you on Dreamwidth, and I already follow you on Tumblr (under different usernames -- see my flocked post).

Funny you mentioned Yahoo Grouos. I remember when it was Yahoo Clubs, and I actually miss that format.

I hang on to LJ for sentimental reasons but have pretty much stopped utilizing it as my fandom base (I couldn't tell you the last time I added a new person to my flist).

I miss the early days :-)

welcome to villa cariño!capitu on April 4th, 2017 09:15 pm (UTC)
That format took plenty of work because everything was via email and there were all these groups and you got so. much. email!

I'm so used to LJ and I am fond of it, for everything is given me, you know? It's comfortable. *nods*

*sigh* Luckily I had made myself a DW account ages ago when I was with the Daily Prophet. (side note: I've added you to DW...or whatever word is used on DW). But it does suck to learn how to code and navigate a new platform. Though like you said, we'll figure it out if we need :)

Our LJ comms and fest are the thing we need to protect! It would suck to lose all that beautiful work, and our fandom history.
welcome to villa cariño!capitu on April 5th, 2017 07:58 pm (UTC)
We'll figure it out if we must. I just discovered that DW has the most useful tool LJ had for me (aside from LJ cuts that is), which is the option to read my flist separately. I don't filter my entries, but I do like to read personal journals and community entries separately, which LJ has had for years, I discovered that DW has that option as well, yay! (http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=76)

And too true! I hope mods and owners slowly start backing up communities at DW. The process is fairly simple, if a bit slow with all the migration going on right now. *nods*

Hi Capitu,

I check into Live Journal daily. Imagine my surprise with the pop-up. I clicked 'not now,' and was politely threatened that my Live Journal and its content would be deleted, or words to that effect.

I have an AOL account. I have an Insane Journal account.

I used to have a Dreamwidth account, but deleted it, because I was never on it.....

I am going to create another Dreamwidth account. If I need an invitation, I may ask you for one, Capitu.

I go back to the day to the year 2005, 2006. I was not familiar with the yahoo groups. I was on fanfiction.com a lot, and Artistic Alley, but, then I discovered the Restricted Section. I loved it, and discovered many of the authors there were over on Live Journal. So, on Jan. 3rd, 2007, I set up my Live Journal account and have been here ever since.

I daily go to Insane Journal, to read the messages, change my icon, and check on my icons. Insane Journal lost a lot of people. I go to AOL daily, to read, bookmark a h/d fiction, or just browse the h/d fictions and authors and the artwork too.

I also come here to Live Journal daily.

But, after this evening, I am going to Dreamwidth and set up a new account again.

I am glad that many fictions and art from Live Journal are cross posted to AOL. That is a huge relief.

Anyways, I am off to go to Dreamwidth.com and set up a new account. Under Ldydark1.

I also have Tumblr but am rarely on it.

I will keep you posted. Thank you for starting this thread.

( I miss Dysonrules and Iowa, I hope someday they return and say

'hello'. )

P.S. ~ I just set up my Dreamwidth.org account under the name

No problem! Though as far as I know DW is free to join, and I know you did because we just added each other. :)

Oh, you remember many of the "private" archives as well. Back in the day there were many and wonderful, but it's awesome to see something like AO3 come to fandom, which makes it much more inclusive!

I miss them, too! Hopefully we'll hear from them soon, no? It's been ages since I heard from either way, but I hope they are OK.

Thanks Capitu, for adding me over at DW.

Over the holidays, I remember naadi warning me about live journal,

and how something like this may happen.

She was right.

I will have to go back through my messages to see exactly what

she had to say. She was ending her website and putting a new

website up somewhere else.

Sad, live journal is definitely changing, I am glad we have other

alternative options out there.
welcome to villa cariño!capitu on April 6th, 2017 12:59 pm (UTC)
Yeah, change is always tough. I'm less worried about fanfic, because that content is more easily to migrate, after all DW has a system to import all the content, but the art, if the art is hosted at LJ, then those images will be imported, but the link remains at LJ, you know? So, I hope there's a similar alternative at DW. ^^

Thanks for cheering me up. I've been bizarrely anxious about this for a few days now and this helped – especially what you said at the end of your post. It's something I know, of course, but hearing it from someone else makes all the difference, somehow.
welcome to villa cariño!capitu on April 7th, 2017 12:26 pm (UTC)
*hugs* It's very stressing and kind of depressing at the moment, but I'm confident things are going to settle one way or the other soon enough, no need to add unnecessary drama, me thinks, just take it as it comes and make the best of it. :)
Icicleicicle33 on April 8th, 2017 09:49 pm (UTC)
Thanks for making this post. I've been sick and kind of out of the loop. It was kind of a shock to come back on lj and see everyone leaving. I really do think everything will be fine, and that the Russian government is not all that concerned about a small hp slash community on lj. I have friended you on dreamwidth. I'm still not too familiar with how everything works there, but hopefully it will only be a precaution rather than a permanent move.
welcome to villa cariño!capitu on April 9th, 2017 12:57 pm (UTC)
I agree, I think the new TOS are more or less as used by other sites, but a lot of people are don't feel comfortable here any more. I think most is going to crosspost, at least until things are a bit more settled. *nods*
