Snowflake Challenge, Day 2.
I was going to wait and post two days in one (I'm really not used to post daily!), but I figured, it should at least try to make this challenge as it's supposed to do. :)

Day 2

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I'm going to be obvious and talk about Harry Potter. It absolutely and definitely changed my life. Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone was the first book I read entirely in English. I loved it, I was absolutely enchanted and then I managed to get the rest (CoS, PoA, GoF up till then) delivered. I remember coming on line to know more about the series while waiting for OotP to be realised, and that's how I found fanfiction and fandom.

Not only the HP books was a series that made me dream, I also found an amazing community behind. I felt I was part of something, and once I found fandom—well, the change was literally life-changing. I'm here, all these years later, still getting to know amazing people, making some of the most important friendships of my life, and ultimately becoming my constant happy place.

I know this same experience is probably shared by many of you, which makes it even more special in a way. <3

Being part of a fandom makes me feel so happy and at home. It was SO NICE to discover the Drarry community and I can totally understand what you say here.

... But so you've read all the books in English from the first moment! Wow!

Yes, exactly! HP & fandom is home!

This speaks to me in so many levels:

we-are-the-harry-potter-generation-harry-potter harry_potter_generation

And yeah, I've read all the books in English - more times than I can count, too! And Spanish, also. lol I wasn't lying when I said the HP changed my life. :)

We are the HP generation! :-) Yes, we are! Well spoken.

:)

Whenever I read "We are the Harry Potter Generation" I hear it in this very powerful voice, like, I dunno, Morgan Freeman or Alan Rickman's voice. Heh.

Harry, man. Harry.

It might be the obvious choice, but it's also my favorite. That dude has changed all our lives for the better, yes?

Harry, man. Harry.

I heard that in the most awesome voice! And yes, all for the better. <3333

Yes! All of this, very much so! I'll probably put down the same when I do this (I think I will do this!). The Harry Potter community is so lovely!! <3

Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone was the first book I read entirely in English.

This made me realize that I've never read the HP books in english. 😱 Though after reading so many fics in english I feel like I have, lol.

LOL! You should! I've read both but my favourite are the English versions, there's something a bit more ~magical~ about the original language. :)

The first copy I had it was a paperback and as I read I made all these notes of the words I didn't know and their meaning (I was surprised there weren't that many) with pencil. I still have it and adore that copy. :)

I just started to read the books in English! The translation I've read is really really well done, but I love reading the books in their original language, too :)

And yeah, HP may be the obvious choice, but I love reading what it did to you, and how it changed your life. I agree with you on the power of both the books, ánd the fandom. The books really are my escape, and JKR created this world I forever want to get lost in. And then there's fandom, building beyond that world, and adding that amazing, addictive element of meeting all the amazing people. I loved reading your post, and couldn't agree more with you :) <3

There are all sorts of translations in Spanish. Like, the first I read had everything translated, later they kept some names, which I enjoyed more. *nods*

I also think my GoF book came with a mistake, the order in which Harry's parents' ghosts came from his wand. I don't remember, but it was a huge deal back then. ^^

The building of the world we do in fandom is incredibly powerful! It's change lives and the way we see characters, I think it's magical. :)

Thank you for reading! <33
